Star Trek Picard spin-off gets a UK broadcaster – here's when you can watch

After much waiting, a UK broadcaster for Star Trek's Captain Jean-Luc Picard spin-off has been announced.

Amazon Prime Video will air the still-untitled series, with episodes coming to the streaming service less than 24 hours after they debut in the US. The deal they have signed will last for multiple years.

This might come as a blow to fans expecting the series to stream on Netflix, seeing as how it has Star Trek: Discoveryand tons of classic Trek all under the one roof.

Alex Kurtzman, who produces Discovery, is also behind the Picard show. He is quoted as saying: "There's only one word that can begin to describe Sir Patrick Stewart as Starship Commander Jean-Luc Picard, and that's 'legendary'.

"We are thrilled beyond measure to have him back in command, bringing the optimistic messages of Star Trek to audiences around the world."

Stewart will reprise his role from The Next Generation, and his former co-star Jonathan Frakes will direct some episodes, while one of Discovery's directors, Hanelle Culpepper, will oversee the first two episodes.

This will make her the first woman in the show's 50+ year history to direct the launch of a Trek instalment.

The Picard series has been described as a "10-episode movie" and it could run for at least three seasons.

Like Discovery, the show will air on CBS All Access in the US.
