Star Trek: Picard's First Teaser Reveals His Post-Starfleet Fate

The first teaser for CBR All Access' next Star Trek series, Star Trek: Picard, is big on mystery, asking what happened to the iconic captain once his time with Starfleet came to an end. Patrick Stewart does make an appearance at the very end of the footage, but the majority of it consists of shots of the Picard family vineyard in La Barre, France, where he retired in the final episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, "All Good Things."

But while we learn that Picard did eventually settle into the life of a winemaker, the teaser also introduces the series' core concept, albeit as a mystery. As the camera pans across the vineyard, the narrator gives a brief summary of the end of Picard's career, then asks, "What did that cost you? Your faith? Your faith in us? Your faith in yourself? Tell us - why did you leave Starfleet, Admiral?"

Picard will see Stewart reprise the fan-favorite role he portrayed on Star Trek: The Next Generation for seven seasons and four films. While details about the project has largely been kept under wraps, the series will serve as a sequel of sorts to TNG, taking place 18 years after the events of the Star Trek: Nemesis film. It will examine how the character has changed since he was the Captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise-D.

The series began production in April and will also star Alison Pill, Harry Treadaway and Isa Briones in series regular roles. While we don't yet know if the series will feature appearances from other members of the TNG cast, Jonathan Frakes confirmed that he would be involved with the series as the director of episodes three and four.

The first season of Star Trek: Picard will run for 10 episodes.

Star Trek: Picard stars Patrick Stewart, Santiago Cabrera Michelle Hurd and Evan Evagora and is set to debut later this year on CBS All Access.
