Star Trek: Picard teaser gives first official look at Patrick Stewart's return as Jean-Luc Picard

Star Trek has released the first official look at Patrick Stewart's return as Jean-Luc Picard in his upcoming spin-off.

The minute-long clip offers idyllic shots of a vineyard, complemented by a voiceover directed at Picard.

"15 years ago today, you let us out of the darkness," the voiceover says.

"You commanded the greatest rescue in modern history. Then the unimaginable. What did that cost you? Your faith? Or your faith in us? Your faith in yourself?

"Tell us: why did you lose Starfleet, Admiral?"

The promo then cuts to Picard looking directly into the camera.

CBS has also released a poster for the new show with the tagline "the end is only the beginning".

Star Trek: Picard has recently been described as a "10-episode movie" by Stewart's former Next Generation co-star Jonathan Frakes, who is directing episodes 3 and 4.

"It is a very ambitious approach to television, in the first season," Frakes added. "I think the fans are going to be thrilled and excited and surprised."

In addition to Stewart, the Picard spin-off has lined up Santiago Cabrera, Michelle Hurd, and newcomer Evan Evagora as part of the cast.

"We are set up for possibly three years of this show, so if there is a film, it's a long way off," Stewart recently said.

Star Trek: Picard will air onCBS All Access in the US and Amazon Prime Video internationally, including the UK.
