Star Trek 4: Hemsworth Reveals The Truth Behind Walking Away

Star Trek actors Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth had reportedly walked away from the fourth installment over contract disputes. Hemsworth has now come out stating that, for him, that might not be the case.

In an interview with variety, the Marvel star had this to say about turning down Star Trek 4:

“I didn’t feel like we landed on a reason to revisit that yet,” Hemsworth says of returning as George Kirk in Star Trek 4. “I didn’t want to be underwhelmed by what I was going to bring to the table.”

Star Trek 2009 saw a then-unknown Hemsworth play George Kirk, captain of the USS Kelvin. As a Romulan ship burst out of a space anomaly, George Kirk takes control of the Kelvin and allows his crew and newly born son time to escape. James T Kirk grew up never knowing the father who sacrificed himself that day.

As fans already know, this event leads to the creation of what is now known as the Kelvin timeline of events in the Star Trek universe. The proposed fourth movie in the new franchise was to bring back George Kirk in some form or fashion. The Rumored script saw James Kirk going back to save his father. Paramount announced the movie before Star Trek: Beyond hit screens in 2016.

Stars Zachary Quinto and John Cho have both expressed their desire to return to the franchise that made them household names. Hemsworth, the once unknown Australian actor is now a global superstar commanding a top tier salary. Chris Pine has also seen his star power rise since the first movie.

Trek was dormant for many years before the release of the first Kelvin movie ten years ago. Although the movie franchise has crawled to a stop, the home front looks to be booming. Star Trek: Discovery’s third season renewal and the launch of Star Trek: Picard has fans giddy with anticipation.

There is a good amount of momentum franchise and Paramount needs to capitalize on it. Star Trek: Beyond wasn’t the mega-hit the studio had hoped for, but a great script and direction could turn that round for the fourth installment. Fans can only hope the studio comes to their senses and does what it can to get the movie made.
