Carnival Row fantasy series starring Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne gets release date

Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne will be sending out the summer in style with one of the most ambitious fantasy series of the year.

The two are teaming up for Amazon Prime Video's Carnival Row, which has accompanied confirmation of its Friday, August 30 release date with its cryptic first-look teaser:

Carnival Row mixes steampunk aesthetic with classic fantasy, as teased in the trailer where Bloom's character Rycroft Philostrate warns "something inhuman approaches".

Rycroft is seemingly referring to the humanoid butterfly creature he's back-to-back with, as played by Suicide Squad's Cara Delevingne.

The two will be drawn together for an illicit affair in an imaginary Victorian world where the human world is invaded by mythological immigrant creatures, igniting a struggle to coexist between the two species.

As their affair heats up, Vignette Stonemoss (Cara Delevingne) is tortured with secret knowledge tied to a string of murders that Rycroft is investigating in his work as a detective.

Carnival Row has been created for Amazon Prime Video by Star Trek: The Next Generation's René Echevarria and Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams veteran Travis Beacham.

Also starring will be Game of Thrones and Torchwood actress Indira Varma, Chernobyl's Jared Harris, Troy: Fall of a City actor David Gyasi, Supergirl's Tamzin Merchant, The Casual Vacancy star Simon McBurney and Star Trek's Alice Krige (yes, the Borg Queen!).

Carnival Row will premiere in over 200 countries on Friday, August 30 in English on Amazon Prime Video, with foreign-language versions to arrive later in the year.
