“Space Jam 2” Casts Up Its Basketball Stars
The “Space Jam” sequel is coming together and now details of who leading man LeBron James has recruited for the team-up of NBA stars and Looney Tunes characters film have started to come out.
ESPN (via Movieweb) reports that Anthony Davis, who recently joined James as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, will be included in the cast. Also onboard are Damian Lillard of the Portland Trail Blazers, Chris Paul of the Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors star Klay Thompson.
Additionally, WNBA legend Diana Taurasi is in, as is Los Angeles Sparks duo the Ogwumike sisters, Nneka and Chiney. The only other casting before this point has been that of an actor, namely “The Walking Dead” and “Star Trek: Discovery” star Sonequa Martin-Green who will play James’ wife.
James officially signed on to do the sequel last year but reports indicated he was having trouble recruiting other NBA All-Stars to appear in the movie due to various endorsement deals that may have made for a conflict of interest.
That now seems to have been all sorted out and so cameras can get rolling on the follow-up to the 1996 classic which starred NBA great Michael Jordan. Filming is expected to get underway this summer with Terence Nance (“Random Acts of Flyness”) helming from a script by Sev Ohanian (“Searching”) and Ryan Coogler (“Black Panther”).
“Space Jam 2” is set to arrive in cinemas on July 16th 2021.
