Stephanie Niznik dead: Star Trek and Everwood actress passes away aged 52

Star Trek and Everwood actress Stephanie Niznik has died at the age of 52.

The star reportedly died ‘unexpectedly’ on June 23 at her home in Enrico, California.

Stephanie was from Bangor in Maine, US, and had first set her mind on becoming a geneticist before graduating from Duke University with majors in theatre and Russian.

She then went on to do a masters at Cal Arts, which then lead to roles in Vanishing Son and Murder She Wrote.

Stephanie appeared alongside Marvel stars Chris Pratt and Emily VanCamp in the mid-2000s teen drama Everwood.

She also appeared in a number of recurring roles in some of the biggest US TV hits of the past decade or more, with stints in Lost, NCIS and CSI: Miami.

Arguably Stephanie's biggest movie role was playing Trill Starfleet Ensign Kell Perim in the movie Star Trek: Insurrection.

She then returned to the world of Star Trek, when she played the Wraith in the 'Rogue Planet' episode of the series Star Trek: Enterprise.

Her Everwood colleagues were quick to pay tribute to Stephanie on Twitter , as they shared their dismay at her passing.

Scott Wolf, who played Dr. Jake Hartman during the final two seasons of the family drama wrote on Twitter: "This is heartbreaking. She was so kind, and so fun to work with. I’m lucky to have known her. Rest In Peace Stephanie."

Another Everwood co-star, Vivien Cardone, also shared her thoughts about Stephanie’s passing.

She wrote on Twitter: “An absolutely beautiful soul gone far too soon. So grateful to have met, worked with, and learned from such a strong, confident, kind, incredible woman.

"You will be so dearly missed Steph.”
