Star Trek: The Motion Picture Event

Fans of Star Trek: The Motion Picture  shown on the big screen, rejoice because the film will return to theaters for two days this September.

Entertainment reports that the limited re-release via Fathom Events and Paramount will be “presented in its original widescreen aspect ratio in more than five hundred theaters and include the behind-the-scenes documentary short The Longest Trek: Writing the Motion Picture.”

This release comes as the 40th Anniversary of the release of the movie (December 7, 1979) approaches.

Directed by Robert Wise, Star Trek: The Motion Picture featured the original cast; William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, DeForest Kelley, James Doohan, Nichelle Nichols, Walter Koenig, Grace Lee Whitney, Majel Barrett-Roddenberry, and George Takei, along with guest stars Persis Khambatta, Stephen Collins, Mark Lenard, and more.

Star Trek — The Motion Picture is a visual marvel and a film that even many ardent Star Trek fans have never had an opportunity to see on a big screen,” said Tom Lucas, Fathom Events Vice President of Studio Relations. “Fathom Events is honored to celebrate this cinematic classic’s 40th anniversary with this special theatrical presentation.”

Star Trek: The Motion Picture “became the fourth highest grossing of the year and earned three Academy Award nominations, including Best Visual Effects, Best Art Direction, and Best Music, Original Score.”
