Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 arriving on Blu-ray in November

Announced at Star Trek Las Vegas, the second season of Star Trek: Discovery will arrive on Blu-ray and DVD on November 12.

It is pretty much official. Begun, the Streaming Wars have.

By this time next year people who prefer to stream their media will have a plethora of choices in front of them. There will be Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, HBO Max, Disney Plus and of course, CBS All Access. Most people won’t be able to afford all of them and no doubt some difficult choices are waiting to be made.

Which is why it should come as no surprise that physical media is starting to make a comeback. The simple idea that you can buy something once and then it’s yours, forever, can be very appealing. No need to worry what streaming service has what. You want to watch it, you pull out the Blu-ray, put it in the player and bam, you’re done.

Which means that today’s announcement out of Star Trek Las Vegas should come as welcome news for a large part of Trek Nation.

CBS and Paramount announced that the second season of Star Trek: Discovery will arrive on Blu-ray and DVD on November 12. The four-disc set will include all 14 episodes as well as the Star Trek: Short Treks episodes “The Brightest Star” and “Runaway.”

The set will also include over two hours of bonus features, which of course is something you don’t get when you stream Discovery online. They will include commentaries for four episodes which will feature contributions from both Anson Mount and Jonathan Frakes among others as well as deleted scenes, a gag reel and cast interviews.

Additionally, the set will include the following featurettes:

Enter the Enterprise: Discovery’s production designer, builders, actors, and producers discuss the daunting task of reviving the iconic ship’s bridge.

Putting it Together: Follow the real-life Discovery crew through preparation, shooting, and posting the second-season finale.

The Red Angel: Go behind the scenes with Discovery’s producers and directors, as well as Sonequa Martin-Green and the craftspeople who created the Red Angel and made it come to life.

Designing Discovery Season Two: On a show where no location exists in our world, the production and lighting design teams must create every space. Learn how they pulled it off.

Prop Me Up: Season Two: Propmaster Mario Moreira takes fans through the world of Discovery props.

In addition to the U.S. release, Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 will be released internationally on the following dates: November 18 in the United Kingdom, November 19 in Italy, November 21 in Germany, November 22 in Spain, November 25 in the Nordics, November 27 in Belgium, The Netherlands, and Luxembourg, November 28 in Denmark, and December 4 in France.
