Star Trek fans petition for Captain Nog memorial in Picard following Aron Eisenberg’s death

Star Trek fans are petitioning for a Captain Nog statue in the upcoming series Picard following the death of Aron Eisenberg.

A Change.org petition has been set up thanking the actor for his work in the fandom and acknowledging the ‘recognition’ he deserves.

‘You could almost say that Aron Eisenberg was born to play this role, if nothing else he gave us all a wonderful gift, Nog,’ shared Emma Gazaway who created the petition.

‘Nog had, by far, the most interesting character arch [sic] in star Star Trek DS9, if not the whole Canon Trek universe.

‘We grew with him, and he with us. His advancement to an officer, as the first Ferengi in Starfleet on its own deserves recognition in the new series.

‘The friendship and joy that Aron himself brought us, deserves even more. Thank you Aron, thank you Nog. We love you.’

Eisenberg played Nog, a Ferengi, on the Star Trek spin-off Deep Space Nine between 1993 and 1999.

His wife confirmed his passing in a statement on Facebook, paying tribute to the actor, saying: ‘I love him dearly and will miss him eternally.’

She wrote: ‘It is with extreme regret and sadness to announce that my love and best friend, Aron Eisenberg, passed away earlier today.

‘He was an intelligent, humble, funny, emphatic soul. He sought to live his life with integrity and truth.’

She added: ‘He was so driven to put the best he had into whatever work was put before him.

‘He lived his life with such vigor and passion.’

Malissa explained that they had only got married recently, and planned to celebrate with their family and friends.’

CBS released the first trailer for new series Star Trek: Picard back in May, giving fans a sneaky glimpse at Patrick Stewart as an ominous voice begins to question why he left Starfleet.

The voice says: ’15 years ago today, you led us out of the darkness. You commanded the greatest rescue armada in history, then the unimaginable.

‘What did that cost you? Your faith. Your faith in us. Your faith in yourself. Tell us, why did you leave Starfleet Admiral?’

The new series picks up 18 years after the events of Nemesis, where Picard has left Starfleet to live out life on his famous vineyard surrounded by peace, grapes and wine.

But he is soon drawn back into the world of Starfleet.

Star Trek: Picard will air on CBS: All Access in the US and Amazon Prime Video in the UK in 2020.
