The Apprentice fires a fifth candidates after no-one knows when World War II started

The Apprenticerolled on tonight (October 30) and perhaps more so than anything else this Halloween, had us all screaming all the TV. And not (just) because Riyonn Farsad got fired.

This week was the return of the fan-favourite scavenger hunt, which saw the candidates given a list of item descriptions and tasked with working out what they are and where to source them for the cheapest price possible in Oxford and Cambridge.

One of the items was a book in the Alice in Wonderland series that was printed before World War II. Queue the candidates asking when the war began, and viewers at home tweeting furiously about it.

"I can't find a GIF to fully demonstrate my confusion in watching #TheApprentice," tweeted one fan, "these guys dont know when WW2 was. I've known since I was about 10".

"If they don’t know when WWII started then this is probably the closest any of them ever got to Oxford and Cambridge," tweeted another, while a third said: "Fancy being an adult and not knowing when WWII took place."

"They don’t know when WW2 was and they don’t know what a mortarboard is," exclaimed a fourth viewer. "Jeez Louise."

One viewer's reactions was a bit more dramatic, tweeting: "HOW THE ACTUAL F**K DO THESE CANDIDATES NOT KNOW WHEN WWII STARTED?! ....gobsmacked... and ashamed of these ignorant people..."

Eventually, Team Empower managed to secure seven of nine (Star Trek reference!) of the items, while Team Unison collected eight of the items and spent a lot less money, meaning that Cockeny geezer Thomas Skinner was finally on the winning team.

Quite the turnaround from his close escape last week.

The Apprentice airs Wednesday nights at 9pm, with The Apprentice: You're Fired airing afterwards on BBC Two.
