Star Trek: Short Trek Debuts First Look at New Animated Stories

Star Trek: Short Treks -- an anthology series set in the Star Trek universe -- has released the first photos from its two animated episodes.

The photos were released by the TrekCore Facebook page, and also features descriptions and a release date for the animated shorts.

The first episode will be titled "Ephraim and Dot," and will follow a USS Enterprise repair drone that encounters a mycelial tardigrade. The second episode, "The Girl Who Made the Stars," is likely a reference to Michael Burnham's monologue regarding the African legend, which opened the Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 premiere "Brother." Both animated shorts will be available on CBS All Access on Dec. 12.

Aside from the two animated shorts, Star Trek: Short Treks also has four live-action episodes in development. Three will follow the characters from the USS Enterprise, with the fourth serving as a prequel to the upcoming series Star Trek: Picard.

Picard is not the only new Star Trek series headed to CBS All Access. The streaming service is also developing Section 31, which will see Star Trek: Discovery star Michelle Yeoh reprise her role as the mirror universe's Philippa Georgiou, and Lower Decks, an animated comedy series from Rick and Morty writer Mike McMahan.
