Star Trek: Picard teaser features return of Next Generation characters

A brand new NFL teaser for Star Trek: Picardwelcomes back two key characters from The Next Generation.

Although leading man Patrick Stewart didn't want Picard to be a "reunion show" full of Next Generation heroes, thanks to the trailer, we now know that William Riker and Beverly Crusher will be returning for more sci-fi fun.

Judging by screenwriter Akiva Goldsman's recent comments, in which he confirmed Picard will be "more character-based" than previous Star Treks, fans might get to know Riker and Crusher on an even more personal level.

He told Hollywood Outbreak of the new show: "We pointedly wanted to not make a sequel to The Next Generation. I think that tonally, it's a little bit of a hybrid. Obviously you will see – I hope – slower, more gentle, more lyrical, it is certainly more character-based.

"It also takes on the same thing that the original series took on, that Next Gen took on, that Discovery takes on – which is a hope for a future that is in many ways better than the world we live in today."

Star Trek: Picard has a premiere date of January 23, 2020. It will air on CBS All Access in the US and Amazon Prime internationally, including the UK.
