Patrick Stewart reveals his disappointment with Star Trek: Nemesis

We never thought it would happen, but Sir Patrick Stewart is reprising his role as Captain Jean-Picard in Star Trekspin-off Picard.

For fans, it's a chance to see new adventures with the best franchise protagonist (don't even argue, Shatner fans), but for the actor himself, it's the chance to end on a higher note than things did previously.

Speaking to Variety, the actor spoke about his time on Star Trek: The Next Generation, and compared it negatively to that other big franchise he was a part of, X-Men.

"Hugh (Jackson) and I were so thrilled when the last thing we did for X-Men was Logan," he said. "It was the best X-Men experience we both had, because we were the same characters but their world had been blown apart.

"Next Generation didn’t end like that. In fact, our last movie, Nemesis, was pretty weak."

Even though he was unhappy with how TNG ended, he didn't want to revive it for the sake of it, explaining that when he met with the Picard producers.

He said: "I explained to them all those elements of Next Generation which belong in Next Generation, and why I didn’t want to go near them again."
