Star Trek: Picard - CBS All Access Officially Confirms Season 2 Renewal

Star Trek fans can already look forward to seeing much more Jean-Luc Picard, as CBS All Access has officially announced its upcoming series Star Trek: Picard has already been renewed for Season 2.

The reveal came at the streaming platform's panel at this year's Television Critics Association winter press tour. Reports of a Season 2 renewal for Picardfirst surfaced back in December. However, this is the first official word from the network itself.

"The energy and excitement around the premiere of Star Trek: Picard has reached a magnitude greater than all of us at CBS All Access could have hoped for," said EVP and Head of Original Content Julie McNamara. "We’re thrilled to announce plans for a second season before the series’ debut, and we are confident that Star Trek fans and new viewers alike will be captured by the stellar cast and creative team’s meticulously crafted story."

No other details have been provided as to future installments of Picard outside of its upcoming ten-episode season. Deadline provides hearsay that head of all things Star Trek Alex Kurtzman was looking at a second season premiere in late 2020 or early 2021. There seems to be some change in the captainship, though, between seasons. Season one showrunner and Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Chabon is currently devoting his time and resources to his work on The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay for Showtime. He would most likely remain on as an executive producer, but it's fair to say he wouldn't be able to continue to engage as Picard's showrunner.

Star Trek: Picard stars Patrick Stewart, Alison Pill, Michelle Hurd, Evan Evagora, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera and Harry Treadaway. The series is set to premiere on CBS All Access Jan. 23.
