Patrick Stewart invites iconic Star Trek: The Next Generation cast member to join Picard season 2

Star Trek: Picardis bringing back a host of fan-favourite characters from across the franchise to join the iconic starship captain in his new series. There's Data, Troi and Riker, Hugh the Borg and Seven of Nine.

Of course, you fully expect them to not play all their cards at once and thereby hold some characters back for season 2. Well, now we can officially add one name to the list: the legendary Whoopi Goldberg!

Between her movie roles like the Sister Act series, on stage work, her long-running talk show The View and being one the few people to be an EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) winner, you might forgotten that Whoopi was indeed a cast member on Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Now it looks like her mystical, long-living, all-knowing bartender Guinan is coming back, as Sir Patrick Stewart himself went onto The View and extended an official invitation from showrunner Alex Kurtzman and everyone involved with the production.

And she said yes – to much rejoicing from the audience.

Whoopi explained to her fellow panellists that Star Trek was one of her favourite things she's done in her career, and she would love to come back.

With Guinan being such a mysterious character, we feel there's so much that could be done with her in Picard. Heck, we think they should go whole hog and cast her in Discovery as well, which is something she has said she'd like to do.

She was also asked to be cast as the lead in Doctor Whoand is a huge fan of EastEnders, because she's got great taste.

Star Trek: Picard has a premiere date of January 23, 2020. It will air on CBS All Access in the US and Amazon Prime internationally, including the UK.
