Star Trek: Picard's Michelle Hurd reveals what surprised her most about Patrick Stewart
Star Trek: Picard star Michelle Hurd has revealed what it's like to work with Sir Patrick Stewart, and as you can probably imagine, she has nothing but positive feedback.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Hurd – who plays Jean-Luc Picard's friend and colleague Raffi in the CBS and Amazon series – explained how Stewart would very much act as part of the ensemble, despite him being the star of the show.
"Everyday, it's like actor Christmas," she said. "As soon as you are working with him, he is your scene partner. Your ensemble member; he's just right there, acting with you.
"There's no weird hierarchy there because, I mean, he's Patrick Stewart. But, no, he believes in the ensemble. Loves the ensemble, and that includes the crew as well.
She added: "First on the call sheet sets the tone, and he is spoiling the younger actors because what they get to see is 'our leader' being kind. And generous, and mindful."

Hurd also explained how both the character of Picard and Stewart himself have been changed by the fictional and real world since the last time they appeared in the franchise.
"Like Patrick, Picard, too, has grown in the time he has been off-screen. Both actor and character have been affected by what's happening in the real world, and in the one of Star Trek," Hurde says. "Patrick is impacted by that, and I just adore working with him."
Star Trek: Picard airs on CBS All Access in the US and Amazon Prime internationally, including the UK.
