Star Trek's Simon Pegg gives a disappointing update on fourth movie

Simon Pegg has a disappointing update for Star Trek movie fans.

The actor appears in the movie franchise as Montgomery 'Scotty' Scott, with a fourth Star Trek film being greenlit in November last year.

However, speaking recently, Simon seemed to cast doubt that the original Star Trek cast, including Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto, would be reuniting for another instalment, explaining that he doesn't know what the latest is with the sequel.

Among other factors, he cited a 'loss of momentum' and the tragic death of co-star Anton Yelchin as reasons why he doubts it will happen.

"I don't know [about another Star Trek sequel]," Simon told Games Radar.

"The fact is, Star Trek movies don't make Marvel money. They make maybe $500m at the most, and to make one now, on the scale they've set themselves, is $200m. You have to make three times that to make a profit."

He added: "I don't feel like the last one... They didn't really take advantage of the 50th anniversary. The regimen at the time dropped the ball on the promo of the film. And we've lost momentum.

"I think losing Anton was a huge blow to our little family, and our enthusiasm to do another one might have been affected by that. So, I don't know."

In this instance, Simon did seem to be specifically talking about a follow-up to Star Trek Beyond, so it could just be that Star Trek 4 happens without the original cast.

With that long-rumoured Tarantino Star Trek film also a possibility, who knows what's really happening with the Star Trek movie universe right now?
