Hugh Jackman Celebrates 3-Year Anniversary of ‘Logan’ With Wolverine Photo

Hugh Jackman took to his official Twitter account to reflect on his final Wolverine film, Logan.

After nearly two decades of portraying Wolverine in Fox’s X-Men film series, Hugh Jackman officially retired from the role with director James Mangold’s Logan. Released to critical acclaim before earning an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay, Logan offered what many consider to be a perfect conclusion to the story of Wolverine.

Today marked the three-year anniversary of Logan‘s theatrical debut and Hugh Jackman took to his Twitter account to thank fans for allowing him to play Wolverine over the past several years. Included in the post was a photo of a seemingly pensive Wolverine, claws out and ready for battle.

Now that Hugh Jackman has retired from playing Wolverine and Marvel Studios has gained the film right’s to the X-Men in Disney’s acquisition of Fox, the role is expected to be recast if and when the character is introduced to the MCU. Marvel Studios confirmed plans to include mutants in the Marvel Cinematic Universe during its 2019 San Diego Comic-Con presentation. However, the studio is reportedly in no rush to introduce the X-Men to the MCU, meaning it will likely be some time before we learn who will become the new Wolverine.
