Avengers: Endgame star Don Cheadle's Space Jam 2 character may have been revealed

Marvel Cinematic Universe star Don Cheadle might be playing Space Jam 2's Big Bad.

The sequel to 1996's beloved sports comedy featuring characters from the Looney Tunes franchise, Space Jam 2 will feature basketball icon LeBronJames in the lead role, but nothing more is really known about the project.

Yet thanks to Cheadle's Black Monday co-star Paul Scheer, we could have some fresh insight.

Kicking back with CinemaBlend recently, Scheer noted: "Actually Don Cheadle, who I do Black Monday with, he's the bad guy in Space Jam [2], and he said LeBron's really great. He was great in Trainwreck too."

Of course, this should be shelved as a mere rumour for the time being, but if it turns out to be true, we can't wait to see what Cheadle offers in the villainy department.

Not in any way known for a bad guy reputation on screen, he's plied his trade as superheroes (War Machine in the MCU), legendary musicians (Miles Davis in Miles Ahead) and skilled, dependable friends (the rebooted Ocean's franchise) over the years.

The original Space Jam's baddies were a crew of humanoid animated giants known as the Monstars, bossed by Danny DeVito's alien entrepreneur Mr Swackhammer.

Whether or not Cheadle follows in these footsteps, we'll have to wait and see.

Space Jam 2 is scheduled for release in UK cinemas on July 16, 2021.
