Star Trek: Discovery Season 3 Teaser Trailer Shows Burnham In The Future

A new teaser trailer for Star Trek: Discovery season 3 shows Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) settling down in the future. The second season of Discovery came to an end in April 2019, and it boldly took the Star Trek franchise to where it hasn't gone before. In order to prevent vital information from falling into the hands of the villainous A.I. Control, Burnham took the U.S.S. Discovery far away into the future - the 32nd century, to be exact. It's unclear exactly what will happen to Burnham and her crew, but fans are eager to find out.

The first teaser trailer for Discovery, released online last fall following New York Comic Con, hinted that the action would take place after a time jump, with Burnham having spent a lot of time looking for answers. Burnham will team up with new character Cleveland "Book" Booker (David Ajala), though most of the characters Discovery fans already know and love will return. Season 2 stars Anson Mount (Captain Christopher Pike) and Rebecca Romijn (Number One) won't be back following their one-year stint on the show.

The quick teaser for Discovery season 3, shared on the show's official Twitterpage, shows Burnham planting a Federation flag on a brand new planet. The flag itself is tattered and sports its new design, further supporting the theory that the Federation is less formidable than it was in the past. There isn't much new information in the teaser, though it does promise season 3 is coming soon. You can see it below:

An official start date hasn't been set for Discovery season 3, but there could be a speed bump getting in its way. Last week, series star Wilson Cruz warned fans it might take a bit longer for season 3 of Discovery to arrive. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, post-production work on the season is being done remotely, which might slow down the process. As an official date has yet to be given, it's not clear how much of a delay can be expected, though the teaser suggests CBS is still planning to unveil the new season as soon as possible.

For fans eager to learn more about the new season, the teaser won't provide much information, but it is bound to stir up some excitement. It's been a long time since Discovery released any new episodes, and though Trek fans had Star Trek: Picard to keep them occupied, the first season of that show recently came to an end. Fans are looking for the next batch of episodes, and hopefully they won't have to wait much longer for Discovery season 3.

Star Trek: Discovery season 3 will premiere on CBS All Access in 2020.
