March Madness Star Trek Edition: The villains roll into the Evil 8

The villains of Star Trek are now into the Elite 8 of the March Madness tournament after a rather expected but still sort of close second round.

The March Madness‘ other bracket is taking shape, and much like the Starfleet side of things, a lot of top contenders are breezing through the tournament with little in the way of upsets or unexpected outcomes. Like before in round one, most of the picks won easily heading into the round of 16.

Then, Kai Winn took on Dr. Soran. Kai Winn was a religious leader and secondary-antagonist throughout her run on Star Trek: Deep Space 9. She mostly butted heads with Captain Benjamin Sisko and his first officer Kira Nerys, over things like religion, control, and even terrorism. Her calm demeanor and ability to manipulate the masses made her truly wicked.

On the flip side, Dr. Soran’s entire story arc in Star Trek: Generations described Malcolm McDowell’s real-life mindsight while working on the movie; he just wanted to leave. McDowell was never a fan of Star Trek and looked down on the franchise. He even admitted to just taking the role due to the money. The fact that such few votes separated them is a bit perplexing but here we are.

Khan Noonien Singh defeated Weyoun, and The Duras Sisters stopped Admiral Marcus. Meaning round two will feature the Duras Sisters against Khan Noonien Singh.

Joining Kai Winn in the third round is Q, who easily got through Sela.

Gul Dukat took the iconic Gorn Captain down, and he’ll face off with Lore, who narrowly edged out past the Female Changeling. Lastly, General Chang downed the Klingon who killed James T. Kirks’ son, and on the other side, Gowron fell to the Borg Queen. Meaning Chang and the Queen are set for battle in round three.

Voting is now open on the round of Evil 8. On the, the Starfleet bracket, the Elite Eight has taken shape. That part of the tournament will be another four-day cycle, ending on Saturday, April 4th. The Evil Eight for the villain’s bracket will end on Sunday, April 5th.
