Jonathan Frakes Discusses the Time He Played Captain America

A Star Trek alum once picked up Captain America's mighty shield, though not in the way you might think.

Jonathan Frakes, who portrays William Riker in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Picard, reflected on the time he and a friend dressed up as Marvel characters to appear at comic book store openings.

"He had been hired by someone to go out as Spider-Man to open up comic book stores." Frakes said at GalaxyCon. "And Marvel on 575 Madison Avenue, the eighth floor, had built him a costume. And he did a couple of them and he said, 'They're looking for a guy to do Captain America. You should go meet the people over there.' So I went over there and, to make it long story short, he and I ended up going out on this weird tour."

Frakes and his friend went to several other locations, including 7-11 stores, comic book conventions and supermarkets. They even appeared alongside Marvel legend Stan Lee at the front lawn of the White House for an event supporting energy conservation.

Frakes would go on to portray Riker across several films and television shows in the Star Trek universe. He also directed a few Star Trek films and episodes himself.
