Chris Pine to Star in The Saint Reboot
We heard back in February that Paramount was looking to bring Leslie Charteris’ classic character Simon Templar aka The Saint back into the spotlight with a new tentpole movie franchise. The most recent incarnation of the character was a TV pilot starring Adam Rayner and Eliza Dushku that never got picked up and was instead released as a TV movie in 2017. The last theatrical feature, however, was Phillip Noyce’s 1997 film starring Val Kilmer in the lead role. Now we are hearing that Chris Pine will be the next actor to become the charming anti-hero. Hit the jump to find out what we know.
According to Variety, Chris Pine is in negotiations to star in a new version of The Saint for Paramount Pictures. Dexter Fletcher (Rocketman) will direct from a script by Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, Dark Shadows). Lorenzo Di Bonaventura (Transformers) will produce along with Brad Krevoy and Mark Vahradian.
Pine is no stranger to headlining reboots for Paramount, having played Captain Kirk in the new Star Trek movies and also starring in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit (the latter of which did not get a sequel). In the last couple of years, his biggest role has been Steve Trevor in the Wonder Woman movies although he also starred in the TNT series I Am the Night where he received praise for playing a somewhat roguish character. Do you think Chris Pine is a good choice to play The Saint?
