Star Trek's Jonathan Frakes Wants to Cameo on The Orville
Seth MacFarlane's sci-fi comedy The Orville owes a great deal to Star Trek: The Next Generation, as its characters and concept take a great amount of influence from the beloved Star Trek spinoff. Now, one Next Generation alum has expressed his wish to join the show in an on-screen capacity.
Actor Jonathan Frakes -- who portrayed William T. Riker in The Next Generation and Star Trek: Picard, in addition to serving as a director on The Orville -- recently spoke to ComicBook.com regarding his desire to appear in the third season of the Seth MacFarlane comedy series. "I keep waiting for a phone call," Frakes said. "I'm available. I've got a beard."

The actor continued, "I would just like to be, just like I hoped and dreamed of being on [The Big Bang Theory], there's certain things, the absurdity factor, like the Pez dispensers and the garden gnomes, certain benchmarks we all want to reach." Frakes also praised MacFarlane's love for the Star Trek mythos and said the show's move to Hulu will help in terms of creative freedom.
Frakes previously directed the Orville Season 2 episode "Sanctuary." The Orville first premiered on Fox in 2017, before moving to Hulu for its upcoming third season. Star Trek alums that have already appeared on the show include Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi) and Robert Picardo (The Doctor). Next Generation writer Brannon Braga also serves as a writer, producer and director on The Orville.
