Star Trek: Discovery's Pike, Spock and Number One spin-off is officially happening

A brand new Star Trekspin-off series focused on Discovery's Captain Pike, Spock and Number One is beaming off into space.

Called Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the new CBS All Access series will see Anson Mount, Ethan Peck and Rebecca Romijn reprise their respective Discovery roles.

The series will be set "in the decade before Captain Kirk boarded the USS Enterprise, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy", with the premiere written by Discovery and Picard's Akiva Goldsman.

"Fans fell in love with Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn and Ethan Peck’s portrayals of these iconic characters when they were first introduced on Star Trek: Discovery last season," CBS All Access executive vice president and head of programming Julie McNamara said.

"This new series will be a perfect complement to the franchise, bringing a whole new perspective and series of adventures to Star Trek."

The Star Trek universe is of course pretty vibrant at the moment, with Discovery,Picard, as well as the upcoming Star Trek: Lower Decks animated series and a Philippa Georgiou-focused spin-off in the works too.

Meanwhile, Discovery star Wilson Cruz recently gave an update on season three, which is currently in post-production.

Replying to a fan on Twitter, the Dr Hugh Culber actor wrote: "Trust me, none will hesitate giving you a release date as soon as they can. Everyone is working hard on post production as we speak. Patience, grasshopper."

Editor Scott Gamzon added: "Post production, Sound, VFX and Editorial are all hard at work from our homes. It's going to take longer and there have been challenges but the results will be worth the wait!"

Star Trek: Discovery returns for season 3 in 2020. It airs on CBS All Access in the US and Netflix internationally, including the UK.
