Animated Star Trek Series May Cast Popular Next Generation Characters
Star Trek: Lower Decks creator Mike McMahan teased that the animated series set in The Next Generation time frame might feature some of the latter's characters.
"Next Gen is my favorite era," McMahan told Entertainment Weekly. The CBS All Access show is set aboard a minor Starfleet vessel, the U.S.S. Cerritos, and follows the foibles of the support crew. McMahan, a writer for Rick and Morty, said his pitch was, "I want to do a show about the guy who brings the yellow cartridge to the back of the food replicator so that a banana comes out the front."Click the button below to start this article in quick view. McMahan was circumspect about revealing who from Next Generation might appear on Lower Decks, but said, "I would definitely want to try to use some of them so that I could not only build out the world, but also work with some of my heroes." He concluded, "You'll have to wait and see."
The first season of Lower Decks will consist of just 10 episodes and will take place in the year 2380, after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis. A second season has been ordered, but no details have been revealed.
The upcoming web series stars Tawny Newsom, Jack Quaid, Noel Wells and Eugene Cordero, Star Trek: Lower Decks will premiere on CBS All-Access in 2020.
