X-Men: Apocalypse Concept Art Puts Jean Grey in an Uncannily Comics-Accurate Costume

Concept artist Alan Villanueva has posted an unused piece of art from X-Men: Apocalypse, which portrays an extremely comic book-accurate version of Sophie Turner's Jean Grey.

"Here’s an unused concept of mine of Jean Grey back when I worked on the film X-Men: Apocalypse," Villanueva wrote on Instagram. "Being a HUGE fan of X-Men since I was a kid, this was one of those characters that I had a lot of fun working on." In the image, Jean is shown in a blue-and-yellow suit that strongly resembles the Jim Lee-designed one she wore in the 1990s.

The final uniform that Jean wore in the film is a modified version of the '90s suit. Prior to that, she and the other X-Men would wear battle armor they found at Alkali Lake. The sequel, Dark Phoenix, would later have Jean and the other X-Men wearing blue-and-yellow suits that took visual cues from Grant Morrison's run on New X-Men.

In addition to Apocalypse, Villanueva has served as a concept artist on other projects including Doom PatrolTitans and Star Trek Beyond.

Directed by Bryan Singer, X-Men Apocalypse stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Oscar Isaac, Sophie Turner, Rose Byrne, Evan Peters, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Olivia Munn, Ben Hardy, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Lana Condor, Lucas Till and Josh Helman.
