Ready Player Two Audiobook Taps Wil Wheaton to Narrate

Wil Wheaton has been tapped to narrate the audiobook for Ready Player Two, the follow-up to Ernest Cline's 2011 science fiction novel Ready Player One.

Penguin Random House Audio made the announcement on Twitter Monday via a short clip. The Star Trek: Next Generation and Big Bang Theory actor previously narrated the audiobooks for Ready Player One and Cline's 2015 novel Armada. Wheaton has also narrated books by John Green and Randall Munroe.

While no plot details for the sequel have been revealed, the first book takes place in 2045 and follows teenager Wade Watts, who dedicates his life to solving a $500 billion treasure hunt in an online virtual reality dubbed the OASIS. The novel was the first book to reach #1 in print, ebook and audio and spent more than 100 weeks on the New York Times print bestsellers lists.

Ready Player One was also adapted for film in 2018 and featured a script co-written by Cline and Zack Penn. It was directed by Steven Spielberg and starred Tye Sheridan, Lena Waithe, Simon Pegg, Ben Mendelsohn, TJ Miller, and Letitia Wright.

The Ready Player Two audiobook will be released by Penguin Random House Audio on Nov. 24, the same day the sequel debuts in print via Penguin. Ready Player Two is currently available for pre-order in all formats.
