Star Trek Discovery Season 4 Has Reportedly Started Filming
Star Trek: Discovery has reportedly begun production on season 4. Back in 2017, CBS All Access revived the iconic Star Trek franchise on television with Discovery. Set years before The Original Series, the show stars Sonequa Martin-Green as Michael Burnham, one of the crew members on the USS Discovery. The first season was a success for CBS All Access, though some Star Trek fans took issue with the show's tendency to put action over the characters. Season 2 was more of a return to form thanks to the addition of beloved Star Trek characters like Captain Pike (Anson Mount) and Spock (Ethan Peck).

Start nowWhile the COVID-19 pandemic slowed post-production efforts, season 3 of Discovery has remained on track, albeit one that was slightly delayed. Season 2 ended well over a year ago, leaving fans waiting for a conclusion to the game-changing cliffhanger that saw Burnham and the Discovery crew jump hundreds of years into the future. Discovery season 3 will debut on CBS All Access (which was recently rebranded as Paramount+) next month and finally provide the answers audiences have sought.
Even before that premieres, though, Discovery fans can rest assured more is on the way. Per Toronto Filming, it looks like Discovery has begun filming season 4. A fan spotted a sign advertising the cast and crew entrance for Discovery's set, indicating work is underway. Prior to this, there was no suggestion of when Discovery would embark on its next season.
Interestingly enough, CBS All Access hasn't officially announced Discovery's renewal. In January, reports surfaced that Discovery had been tapped for a fourth season, but that's all that has been said about it. However, considering Discovery's success, this isn't a surprise. Fans have warmed up to this new version of Star Trek, and the upcoming third season truly looks like a return to the franchise's roots. With production starting up now, fans can likely expect Discovery season 4 to arrive late next year, provided the pandemic doesn't disrupt the proceedings.
This news comes on the third anniversary of Discovery's premiere on CBS All Access and the day of its network premiere on CBS proper. CBS will air the entirety of Discovery season 1 this fall in place of its usual shows, most of which have been delayed by the pandemic. CBS All Access will continue to expand its Star Trek universe with more shows, two of which are Discovery spin-offs: Strange New Worlds and Section 31. Amid all this new content, fans can still expect more from Burnham and her crew with season 3 and beyond.
Star Trek: Discovery season 3 premieres on October 15.
