Star Trek 4? Zachary Quinto Says the Entire Cast Wants Another Film

In an interview, Zachary Quinto said the cast of the Star Trek film franchise is open to a fourth film.

During his appearance on CBS's The Talk, host Eve asked Quinto, who played Mr. Spock in the most recent film franchise, if he'd be willing to put on the Vulcan ears for another entry into the cinematic series. Quinto's response: "Absolutely." The actor went on to say that the cast often talks about doing a fourth Star Trek film. "We're all incredibly close friends in real life," Quinto said, "and I think all of us would welcome the opportunity to go back and keep telling those stories." Quinto did, however, suggest that the market might be a bit "saturated" at the moment. It should be noted that CBS All Access is currently airing Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Short Treks, Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Picard.

The rebooted Star Trek film franchise launched with Star Trek in 2009, which was followed by Star Trek Into Darkness and Star Trek Beyond. In the years since Beyond, there has been talk about another instalment. In 2016, it was announced that much of the cast was set to return for a fourth film. However, negotiations with actors Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth fell through due to salary disagreements with Paramount Pictures, which led to the project stalling.

Director Quentin Tarantino had expressed interest in working on a new film, but those plans have also been put on hold. In 2019, writer and producer Noah Hawley, perhaps best known for the series Fargo and Legion, was slated to write and direct a new Star Trek film without Captain Kirk or Captain Picard. As of August 2020, that project had also been shelved.
