Star Trek: Discovery season 4: Release date, filming, cast, plot and everything you need to know

It's official: Star Trek: Discovery is returning for season four.

Stars Sonequa Martin-Green and Doug Jones joined co-showrunners Michelle Paradise and Alex Kurtzman in a video to give fans the good news.

"Oh my goodness," said Martin-Green. "I am so excited to be back on set. It's going to be great to see everybody and really love on each other.

"I'm so excited to be giving you a season four, and to watch season three. That's what I'm really excited about."

Jones added: "I am looking forward to the one thing I always look most forward to when we get to come back for another season of Star Trek: Discovery, and that is to be reunited with my family again, the Trek family, the Discovery family."

Watch it below.

So now that it's all systems go, what will the next chapter hold?

Here's everything you need to know.

Star Trek: Discovery season 4 release date and filming: When will it air

In the season four announcement video, fans were told that cast and crew would be back at work on November 20 which, given Everything That's Happening Right Now, is a gift in and of itself.

As for when it'll be released, season three landed on CBS All Access in the states on October 15, before arriving on Netflix for international viewers the day after.

So best-case scenario would be a release in the latter half of 2021.

Star Trek: Discovery season 4 cast: Who's in it?

Both Martin-Green and Jones appeared in the season four announcement video, which is a pretty strong indicator that they'll be back as Michael Burnham and Saru.

As for the rest of the cast, that's a tricky one to predict given that season three episodes are airing weekly.

Once the finale wraps up, check back here to see who's still standing.

Star Trek: Discovery season 4 plot: What will happen?

This is firmly under wraps for now, and until season three is done and dusted, it's virtually impossible for us to theorise what lies around the next corner.

In the latest instalment, the Discovery crew have a hell of a task on their hands. They, along with some new faces, are trying to rebuild what's left of the galaxy after it was hit by a cataclysmic event known as 'The Burn', which destroyed the Federation.
