Star Trek: Picard Novel Details Riker, Troi's Post-TNG Adventures

The world of Star Trek: Picard is expanding with a new novel focused on William Riker and Deanna Troi.

Star Trek: Picard – The Dark Veil will debut in January, and takes place aboard the U.S.S. Titan, where Riker served as acting captain. The book takes place one year after Jean-Luc Picard's retirement from Starfleet. "It was a thrill for me to revisit the Titan once again – I’ve previously written about the ship and its crew in my novels Synthesis, The Poisoned Chalice and Sight Unseen – and a unique challenge to write in the ‘new’ continuity set up by Star Trek: Picard," author James Swallow wrote on his personal blog. "Long-time fans of the Titan series will notice some differences, but also some familiar faces too…!"

This is not the first novel to center around Riker and Troi's love life. Veteran author Peter David wrote Star Trek: The Next Generation – Imzadi and its sequel Imzadi II, which chronicles Riker and Troi's meeting and relationship through the years. Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis reprised their roles of Riker and Troi during Season 1 of Star Trek: Picard, with Frakes also directing several episodes.

The official synopsis for The Dark Veil is below:
