David Cronenberg Beams Into The Latest ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Trailer

David Cronenberg has been acting in movies and TV since 1975, so that he’s landed a new role isn’t actually a surprise. And while some are finding it funny that his next part will take him into the vast Star Trek universe, I can’t help but remember that the director previously had a cameo in Jason X of all places. So this is hardly the weirdest sci-fi role he’s ever had.

It’s true, however, that Cronenberg is turning up in next week’s Star Trek: Discovery episode, titled “Die Trying”, according to the latest trailer. The Scanners and Cosmopolis director has a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearance in the footage, but that’s more than enough. Cronenberg has a look that’s pretty easy to recognize and everybody picked up on it pretty quick.

It’s unclear what his role in the episode will be, and knowing him it could be a cameo that lasts 30-seconds or he could be integral. Since this version of Star Trek is foreign to me there’s no way I could even speculate.

If you’re wondering where Cronenberg will show up next in front of the camera, he did a favor to his Eastern Promises, A Dangerous Method, and A History of Violence star Viggo Mortensen by taking a small role in Falling, the actor’s directorial debut.

Cronenberg’s episode of Star Trek: Discovery airs on CBS All Access on November 12th.
