Nioh 2 DLC, PS5 Remasters Of Both Nioh Games Coming This Winter

Nioh 2’s third and final DLC, The First Samurai, has been announced along with remasters of both Nioh and Nioh 2 along with all their DLC. Nioh 2 was initially released back in March this year and was announced to receive three DLC after its release. The first DLC, Tengu’s Disciple, was launched back in July while the second, Darkness in the Capital, was released just last month.

Nioh 2’s refreshing take on the Soulslike genre helped it become one of the more popular games of the year and its story, which turned out to be a prequel, gave fans of the first game more background to the series’ lore. The time traveling aspect of the game’s DLC also helped expand the story even further and dealt with any potential timeline conflicts the prequel could have with the original game. Apart from expanding the story, the DLC also added new enemies, armor, mechanics, and weapons, including the game’s first claw weapon.

In a new post on the PlayStation Blog, Team Ninja Creative Director Tom Lee announced that the third and final DLC expansion of Nioh 2, The First Samurai, will be available on December 17. According to Lee, The First Samurai will conclude the story of the game’s protagonist and will explore the origins of the first samurai, Otakemaru’s past, Sohayamaru’s secret, and more. For those who have yet to play Nioh 2 on the PS4, Team Ninja also announced several new releases scheduled for next year that will give people a chance to experience the entire story of Nioh 2 and more.

The first of which is Nioh 2 - The Complete Edition for the PS4, which will include the base game and all three DLC. Then those who purchased a PS5 or plan to purchase a PS5 will be able to purchase Nioh Remastered - The Complete Edition and Nioh 2 Remastered -  The Complete Edition, which will support 4K and up to 120 FPS gameplay. Lastly, those who wish to experience the entire Nioh franchise will be able to purchase The Nioh Collection for the PS5, which will include both remastered titles and all their corresponding DLC. All four releases will be available on February 5, 2021. Those who own Nioh 2 - The Complete Edition or Nioh 2 and any of its DLC on the PS4 will be able to upgrade to the PS5 versions for free.

With Nioh 2 releasing the same year as the PS5, it isn’t surprising that Team Ninja would want to release a remaster of the game on the next-generation console and having the first game be remastered as well definitely feels like the right decision. It would be great to see how both games will look on the PS5.
